Small Business of the Month – July 2017

Starting this month (July 2017), SMB Insurance will feature one of its clients as the “Small Business of the Month”. This month’s featured client is Love At Last Florist located in Red Bank, New Jersey. Owned and operated by Lisa Smith, this flower shop offers everything from fresh flowers to greeting cards. They also provide delivery. We took a moment to interview Lisa recently about Love At Last Florist, her background, and being a small business owner. Here’s what she had to say:

How long have you been in the florist industry and how/why did you get started in it?

I have been in the florist industry for 27 years. I started out as a driver, worked my way up from head designer to manager to owner.

What prompted you to start your own business?

The shop I was working at was closing down. I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to open my own shop. After working for other people for 26 years I decided to work for my self.

What’s the most rewarding part of being a small business owner?

Interaction with my customers, putting smiles on people’s faces and being my own boss.

What’s the most challenging part of being a small business owner?

Getting the business going.

What’s one piece of advice you can offer to others considering starting their own business?

Be prepared to work long and hard days. Make sure you have some reserve in case it doesn’t take off as fast as you had hoped. Stay positive and don’t give up.

I’ve worked every aspect of the floral business from driver all the way up.With my many years of experience I know how to take care of every order and customer in the most professional and compassionate way. Every arrangement I make is done as if I was receiving it myself.
